New Book by Philip Hughes: What is Happening to Religion in Australia?
For around forty years now, the churches in Australia have benefited from the commitment and expertise of social researcher and Uniting Church minister Philip Hughes. In his vast array of publications, by means of his knowledge of sociology, demography, history and theology, he has provided us, time after time, with insightful analysis of religion and particularly Christianity in Australia and the way that its role and function in society has changed over time. And now he has done it again.
Christian Nationalism in the US: Findings from some recent research
Australian political commentators are having difficulty in coming to grips with the election for a second time of Donald Trump as President of the United States (US). Much of the media commentary on the newly‐installed Trump administration is focused on high profile figures associated with the first two legs of Donald Trump’s coalition. This article summarises recent research into Christian Nationalism in the US.
Comparing Religious Nationalism Around the World
The Pew Research Center in the US has recently released a report comparing the levels of religious nationalism around the world. The report, Comparing Levels of Religious Nationalism Around the World, is a significant analysis which aims to be as independent and as objective as is possible. In its reporting the researchers have noted that they deliberately set a high bar for being counted as a religious nationalist in the surveys, and as such, report conservative estimates.
