The Creation of Meaning in Life: An Initial Report of CRA’s Latest Research

Having meaning in life can make a huge difference in our lives, and this is a particular factor in the later years of life. Research indicates that, in general, people who have a strong sense of purpose and direction in life live longer and also have better physical and mental health. Read about some preliminary findings from our interviews and focus groups, and the details of CRA’s day seminar on Friday 6 February 2026, where six researchers will present papers expanding upon several themes arising out of the project to date.

ISSR Conference in Kaunas, Lithuania

Nine Australians attended the 38th conference of the International Society for the Sociology of Religion (ISSR) held at Vytautas, Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania, from 30 June to 4 July this year. CRA Life Member and Accredited Researcher, Dr Bob Dixon, offers highlights and an overview of the Australian contribution.

Some Notes about Theology and Empirical Research

Philip Hughes and Stephen Reid provide a historical overview of the relationship between theology and empirical research. They outline issues, with advantages and disadvantages of various approaches offered, along with two case study examples. Much of this material was first published in Theology and Social Sciences in Ministry Research, Journal of Contemporary Ministry and it was presented at a workshop on Theology and the Social Sciences at the ANZATS Conference on 1 July 2025 at Pilgrim College.
